6/16/2023 0 Comments Blog Post 9 - AI SkillsAs technology gets better day by day, artificial intelligence goes out of hand and creates a new website called ChatGPT, where it answers and writes all your questions. Just like the calculator, I believe that AI has made English skills more valuable and that studying the art of literature is more important in a world of AI. The main reason I believe it could be like a calculator is that it improves and expands the concept of writing. Many people use ideas from ChatGPT and expand on them to be more creative in their writing, which is beneficial for their knowledge of English. AI is really beneficial, and it is seen as a 24/7 teacher to many people like me. It keeps me motivated in my work and helps me with a variety of tasks like vocabulary and reading comprehension. Finally, believe it or not, AI can create more literature, which can keep the art of literature strong and alive in the future. In a couple of seconds, AI can create billions of new books, which is really beneficial as the new literature can keep up with today's trends, so audiences like us can have an interest in literature itself. As AI gets bigger and bigger every second, I see it becoming a calculator in the art of literature, where it makes it more interesting. This means that schools need to start accepting this technology instead of banning it, as it is really beneficial for us and for the art of literature.
The Merchant of Venice is a play that displays love, justice, and mercy. What this play doesn't display is equality, especially for the Jewish community. The play has a character named Shylock, who is a moneylender. Yes, a moneylender. This play treats Shylock wrongly and mocks him for his Jewish descent. The Merchant of Venice basically mocks every Jewish person in the world. If you don't believe me, here are some examples in the play that show the treatment of the Jewish community. The first example of the play portrays Shylock as a "greedy moneylender". This was a stereotype of the Jewish community back then, which the play unfortunately showed. Another example in the play that makes Shylock a victim is the disappearance and betrayal of his daughter, Jessica. Jessica disappeared and stole the majority of Shylock's wealth to elope with Lorenzo. To make things even worse for Shylock, Jessica decided to convert to Christianity just to be with Lorenzo. Lastly, in the play, there was a court battle between Antonio and Shylock, where Antonio owed money to Shylock. The battle was disputed, and Shylock ended up being forced to pay some fines and convert to Christianity. All of these examples show the wrongful treatment Shylock faces as a victim. This play also shows the worst of the Jewish community, which is really messed up, in my opinion. To wrap things up, this play shows the worst of a marginalized group, and we are all humans, which means we should receive the same treatment.
Over the world's history, there are marginalized groups that faces discrimination and wrongful treatment because they are seen as "unimportant" to dominant groups. Unfortunately, in this day and age, there are still marginalized groups that still face these acts of wrongfulness. Out of all the marginalized groups today, Jewish peoples faces a lot of discrimination, even in this day. This all happens because of the historical injustices. An example of historical injustice to the Jewish community is Hitler's view on them as he saw them as "greedy" and "enemies". This view by Hitler led the Jewish community to face the holocaust, which was a wrongful and tragic event. Even before the holocaust, the Jewish community were viewed wrongfully by the dominant groups. Many dominant groups mock the Jewish people and create more attention from them. An example of the mocking can be seen in the Merchant of Venice. It showed many mocking and wrongful treatments on a character called Shylock. This play influenced millions of people to follow the treatment of the Jewish community, which is really unacceptable. As the Jewish community faces discrimination in the past, it unfortunately happens today in this generation. Recently on the news, a rapper named Ye was mocking and calling out the Jewish community based on the history. This is really dangerous because millions and millions of his fans around the world supported him for calling the Jewish community out, which to let you know that this is 2023. The dominant group of the wrongful treatment and discrimination to the Jewish community is famous influences and leaders. In conclusion, something needs to be changed as these acts of violence still hurt the Jewish community. We live in 2023 where there are supposed to be no dominant or marginalized groups. People gotta start realizing that the Jewish peoples are humans just like all of us, which means they should be treated the same like all of us.
4/28/2023 0 Comments Blog Post 6 - Visual vs TextIn today's world, visual communications appear everywhere we go with pictures and videos at every inch we look. As a student, I believe visual communications has its advantages and disadvantages compared to the traditional text, which I will be comparing both today. The main point between visual communications and traditional text is that visual communications can tell a story just by looking at it, while traditional text doesn't. A picture can simply create and tell a story to different audiences depending on their perspectives, while traditional text simply tells a story from one perspective. Another point between those two is that a visual can really grab many audience's attention, while traditional text doesn't. A visual has different shapes, colours, and sizes to keep the audience engage to the visual itself. The text on the other hand has more information and details to explain the text itself better. Finally, depending on the audience, visuals can communicate with the audience way easier than the traditional text as they have little to no words in their aspect. As there are more points between visual communication and traditional text, depending on who you are, you might see one of these medium easier than the other.
As I saw this ionic photo of the vulture and the little girl, I really thought that was really not right for the photojournalist to not help the child. The main reason I think that it is really not right is that it is an invasion of human privacy. A photojournalist can take pictures of nature or animals, but they should not take pictures of humans because it takes their own privacy away with no consent, and the person is basically seen everywhere in a bad way around the world while the photojournalist and press are making money, which is really disturbing. This photo is also an example of how bad our society can be today, with people just standing and watching other people instead of giving them a hand. Instead of taking the photos, the photojournalist should've saved the child from dying, and he could've just taken photos of the vulture. All of these thoughts give me a reason to disagree with the fact that photojournalists are responsible for capturing a story and not creating, influencing, interfering, or altering it. Once again, it proves the invasion of human privacy, and photojournalists are always taking photos at the wrong place and wrong time, which always causes controversy. All these reasons lead me to believe that the photojournalist was really wrong to not help the child, and it shows an counterexample of a quote that says, "There is more good than bad in this world, more light than darkness and you can make make light." - Peter H. Reynolds
3/31/2023 0 Comments Blog Post 4 - StereotypingAfter I watch the video, it gives me a reason to think the people react differently between white people and black people due to stereotypes and its history. Stereotypes is a huge reason in America that still show how racism still exists today. Many people believe that their own race or sex shows supremacy, while they assume the worst of other people based on their race or sex, which never changes. Stereotype also leads to history as people learn from their elders or their family history about other people based on who they are. Nine times out of ten, the stereotype that a family has will never change for the future. Many people would use stereotypes on other people because of previous encounters with people of a different race or sex. A simple problem or argument in the past will be powerful to the person as they will use their anger and stereotypes to treat other people differently. Unfortunately, to this day, stereotypes still happen, not only in America but also in Canada. As we cannot change the past, we must change it now for the better in the future.
Over the past few weeks, I've been reading some articles about famous figures like Pope Francis apologizing to people for the things that happened to them in the past, but I really notice that these apologies aren't really enough. There are some things I saw that show that an apology is not enough or it is not a "full" apology, which I will be explaining about.
After seeing some apologies by famous figures, I really don't think they take their apology seriously. It might sound confusing, but these famous figures just simply give a speech about how sorry they are to the community that they hurt without recognizing the mistake they made because they all just forget about it by continuing their job after without feeling any guilt about the mistake in the past. It tells me that just saying "sorry" does not show any emotions. A big part of an apology that is needed to be "enough" is that a change needs to happen. A change needs to happen to change the future, but not to repeat the past. An example you can see is with police encounters with the community. Some changes have been made like body-cams included for all officers, but there are still bigger changes that are needed for the future which, we are really hopeful for. To top things off to make an apology "enough" is that connections need to be made. The figure needs to make a connection with the community he/she hurts. In these recent articles I've seen, the figures didn't make any connection or partnership with the communities, which leads to more problems such as the mistake repeating in the future. The figure needs to work with the community to make both sides happy and to prevent the mistake from occurring again in the future. To wrap things up, an apology is a good starting point, but things need to be done to make it a "full" apology. 2/22/2023 0 Comments Blog Post 2 - Police Misconduct I always thought the police were always here to serve and protect us, but after watching this 24 minute video, it really changed the way I see how the police interact with us. Hasan's video gave me so many thoughts that I would never learn until watching this video. I am here to write this blog of three shocking points I learned in this video, and what I think of these points.
The first point or the most shocking thing I saw that really changed my perspective on the police is how they are trained. Most of their training is how to use their fire weapons instead of how to interact with the public. There is one test in their training where one cop has to react by pulling their weapons when a “suspect” pulls something out of their pockets. This really caught my eye because the police are mostly trained to see innocent citizens like us as potential suspects, and it really scares me that the police are mostly trained to use their weapons on us instead of communicating with us. The second point that was really interesting and shocking was a concept called "qualified immunity." It means when a person sues a cop for breaking a law, they must show previous cases that relate to the cop that broke the law. Many cops get away from being in prison even though they broke a law, even if they murder someone. We live in a country where no one is above the law, but it clearly shows how the US allows the police to have a bigger advantage with the law. It really traumatized me that if I saw a cop in a street, I wouldn't know that they could have gotten away from shooting somebody, and they got their job back even though they broke a law. The last point that kind of frightens me a little bit is the police accountability. Every police force has a relationship with their district attorney. When a district attorney deals with a case that includes a police officer, they must turn down the police officer from going to prison or having a death sentence for their wrong doing because if the police officer gets a punishment for their wrong doing, the police force will no longer provide evidences or work with the district attorney for futures cases, which is really hard for the district attorney to solve future cases. This led me to believe that the justice system is still corrupted. The police force are basically bribing the district attorney so that police officer can be released back to the public even though they broke a law. Like the second point, it is really hard to tell if their is a good police officer because they could have broken a law that would put as citizens would've been in prison for, but they got a free pass to be back in our streets. Even though these points are still happening today, I am still hopeful that the police system can change. We must use our voices to fight for what is good for us, and fair for everyone. Everyone should must be treated fairly, and no one can be above the law anymore. 2/8/2023 0 Comments Blog Post 1 - What is Art?When you hear the word "art", you would think it is about pictures, lines, different colour, but art is means more than these things, it can be anything that is made to shows the emotions and ideas. It can be anything you've made from computer coding to singing, and to something simple like writing a literature. Art can expressed everywere you go with everything you can see, explains a meaning and a purpose. For art to have a purpose or meaning, it has to come from creativity from the artist. For an artist to make an art, they must use thier imagination to apply to their art to make it exist. Without creativty, art would not be in existence, and without the existence of art, many things like movies and our favourite books wouldn't exist today.
